Nissan just unveiled a racing version of the Leaf electric car at the New York Auto Show. The Nissan Leaf NISMO RC (Racing Competition) uses similar electric components as the production Leaf, but built on different platform.
The Nissan Leaf NISMO RC is pretty much a race car. It has no doors, carpet, stereo system or anything of that nature. As a matter of fact, the only thing that is similar to the Nissan Leaf pedestrian car is the zero emission advanced Lithium-ion battery design.
Since much of the amenities have been gutted out, the NISMO RC electric race car is about 40 percent lighter than the production Leaf. In addition, it is built on a carbon fiber monocoque platform to reduce weight down to just about 2,068 pounds.
Dimensionally, the NISMO RC boasts a 3.9-inch shorter wheelbase, with 0.8 inches longer and 6.7 inches wider. The most significant difference is the height, which sits more than a foot lower than the production Nissan LEAF, and resulting in a ground clearance of 2.4 inches.
